In my opinion, this comparison is somehow not fair, like comparing apples with oranges. The 10 Fastest Animals On This Planet. Animal speed should be compared in separate categories: on land, in the air, in the water, etc. It's like saying I'm faster than you because I jump from a plane at 100 mph and you are running down the street at 10 mph. Birds in dive have gravitational acceleration as an advantage. It is not a fair comparison.

Let's all take a moment to stop and REALLY appreciate how fast a sailfish truly is, while all the other animals move through the air, the sailfish has to move through water which is a lot harder to do, and shows how strong they are to do it too!

I just have to say something about these animal speeds or ability lists that are confusing people. For instance, human speeds vary widely. Some people would struggle to run 10 MPH while the record is, I believe, 27 MPH for the fastest sprinters. They say the average human sprint speed is around 13 MPH. So why do we think that animals are any different? Not all quarter horses can run 55 MPH. Not all lions can run 50 MPH.

Not all cheetahs can run 75 MPH. Also, there are other animals that should be on the list. Like the ostrich, greyhound, impala, gazelle, Mako shark, and many more. There are way more than just 10 animals that can run, swim, or fly faster than 40 MPH. I hope this helps with all the confusion going around.

Why These AreThe 10 Fastest Animals On This Planet

Bro..the birds don't count they're,e not in this category they don't "run" and they don't fly straight 300-400 km/h. they dive, even a human if u throw him out of a plane that is 30 km above the land he would reach that speed they are getting helped by physics/gravitation here obviously, we are talking about what they can do on their own just pure running/swimming and here comes the cheetah it's literally the fastest animal on earth.

I don’t mean to sound “sensitive” but let’s speak some “truth”: So technically the Quarter horse is NOT the fastest horse breed. I do though feel ALL breeds of the horse should be on there. Almost every horse can run at a speed of 50-55 miles per hour at least. Yet just saying the t͟h͟o͟r͟o͟u͟ ͟gh͟b͟r͟e͟d͟ breed of horse IS the fastest type. Although, AMERICAN Quarter Horses who travel short distances at high speeds CAN gallop at up to 50 miles per hour. The Thoroughbred is estimated to be able to gallop at approximately 45-66 Miles per hour. Which makes them the fastest

So "research shows that human beings can run as fast as 40mph but the sprint speed is only 13mph." First, that makes no sense. A sprint IS as fast as a human can run! Second, neither statement is correct. The word's fastest man is Justin Gatlin. In 2011, he ran the 100 meters in 9.45 seconds, which is 27.5mph. Third, what "research" is this? Please share this "research." 40mph my ass. Humans cannot outrun Seabiscuit! The only way humans can achieve 40mph is in freefall!

To be honest, I was in high school and broke a school record, having a sprint speed running upstairs as fast as 15 mph, and I still currently have the speed. I started running (with basketball and running shoes) when I was three years old. I have more than half a decade of being the entire school's sprinter (as a school project). During those years of high school, I was chased by some medium-sized dog and outran it as well as if it were a piece of cake. I guarantee you it is true.
